Historical and Cultural Preconditions for the Formation of the Pamphlet and Polemic Genres in 17th-18th Century England

Abstract

Pamphlet and polemic literature flourished in England during the 17th and 18th centuries as a result of great political, social, and religious changes. Examining major events like the English Civil War, the Glorious Revolution, and the Enlightenment, this book looks at the historical and cultural environment in which these genres developed. Pamphlets and polemics affected opinions on politics, religion, and government during these times and were vital instruments for public discourse. The growth of these genres and their influence on public opinion are examined in this work through the use of literary, historical, and linguistic analyses.
