AL-ARBAEEN MASS GATHERING IN IRAQ 2021-2022 MEDICAL MANAGMENTS FOR TRAUMATIC ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Introduction: Al-Arbaeen is a massive Shiite religious mass gathering in the city of Karbala, Iraq, corresponding to the end of the 40- and 20-day mourning periods after the anniversary of the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson Hussein bin Ali.
Patients and Methods: Exploring the medical management strategies for traumatic road traffic accidents during the Al-Arbaeen mass gathering in Iraq. The Data used in the present study consists of data collected from the department of Emergency Medical Operations (EMO), Iraq Minister of Health, during Ziarah Al-Arbaeen 2021–2022 years where two MG Al-Arbaeen events in Iraq there is more than 20 million Zaire (pilgrims) visit to Karbala each year.
Results: including 2021 year there was 8% of total Iraqi pilgrims affected by RTA where martyrs (75 pilgrims), while 951 wounded in 2021. In 2022, 2438 Iraqi pilgrims were affected by RTA, with 13% (316) being martyrs. Additionally, 585 foreign pilgrims from other countries, most from the Islamic Republic of Iran, were affected by RTA, with 14.5% (85) of them being martyrs, with totaling 401 martyrs in 2022—an increase of four times in victims. Various factors influenced the occurrence of RTA and injuries which affected the fatalities.
Conclusion: Continuous training with regular supports the preparation and improves the chance of success in the event that actions are set in place to function as planned. Significant work has been conducted to better address the response during large pilgrimage crowd events, it is recommended that an updated and comprehensive response study is overdue to better identify current shortfalls in the health system in time to intervene effectively before any major incidents occur.
