Abstract

Phrasal and metaphorical translation poses a significant problem in translation studies because of the cultural and linguistic subtleties inherent in these phrases. This study examines efficient ways for the precise translation of phraseological and metaphorical statements across languages, emphasising the preservation of semantic fidelity and cultural relevance. Despite comprehensive study on general translation methodologies, a notable knowledge deficit persists in tackling context-specific issues presented by culturally bound terms. The study utilises a qualitative methodology, examining case studies of translated literature in several languages to discern trends and strategies employed by professional translators. Texts were chosen for their abundance of idiomatic and metaphorical elements, and the data were classified to assess the efficacy of different translation strategies, including literal translation, equivalence-based techniques, and adaptation. The results indicate that cultural context and translator proficiency are crucial factors in the effectiveness of phraseological translation. Strategies like functional equivalence and adaptation were most effective in maintaining meaning and cultural significance, while literal translation frequently resulted in the loss of nuance or misinterpretation. The research emphasises the significance of comprehending both source and target cultures to get pragmatic precision. The findings have considerable ramifications for translating theory and practice, promoting the incorporation of cultural and pragmatic training in translator education. Additional research is advised to investigate computational tools and artificial intelligence applications for the automation of phraseological and metaphorical translation, ensuring the preservation of cultural integrity. This study aids in bridging the divide in translation studies by providing practical insights and theoretical progressions.
