NEURODEGENERATIVE CHANGES OBSERVED IN ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer's disease. But currently, the development of cognitive disorders is increasingly explained by mixed (vascular-neurodegenerative) brain damage. At a certain stage of the disease, the same amyloidogenesis, neurodegeneration and apoptosis mechanisms as Alzheimer's disease were found to be involved in the development of vascular dementia. According to pathomorphological studies, about a third of patients with dementia have signs of vascular and neurodegenerative damage, which is explained by the totality of risk factors. One of the most important risk factors for brain substance damage among middle-aged and elderly patients is arterial hypertension.
