Abstract

Background: dentists had a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders, with the highest rates being reported for disorders of the neck, shoulders, and upper back.

objectives: - to determine musculoskeletal disorders in dentist work in Al-Resafa / Baghdad health directorate& its’ association with correct sitting position and other factors,

Method: A cross-sectional study with analytic element was conducted from 1st Nov. – Feb. 14th 2021, by an electronic version of the questionnaire through Google-form, with facilitating orders delivered to all the specialist dental centers of Al-Resafa health directorate, the questionnaire depending on Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire.

Results: 473 dentists enrolled in this study, with mean age (32.020±9.192), female 279(59.0%), married 259(52.9%), years of experience mean was 8.640 ± 8.422, of the participants always sitting in correct-position during patients'-managements. The overall correct-position was Fair 216(45.7%) correct 188(39.7%) & Poor 69(14.6%), 328(69.3%)dentist listed they had trouble (such as ache, pain, discomfort, numbness) during the last-12-months in their neck, Shoulder 271(57.3%), Upper back 222(46.9%), Elbow 99(20.9%), Wrist /hands 200(42.3%), Lower back 311(65.8%), Knees 148(31.3%), & Ankles /feet 118(24.9%) and the highest Ankles /feet 74(62.71%), also the highest percentage in seeking counselling physician for their condition 55(46.61%)

Conclusion: Neck, shoulder and LBP is very common in dental workers, and its symptoms got worse the longer they worked their practice.
