Abstract

A study of the relationship between the air permeability of the shell and its rigidity revealed a low correlation between them (0.25). Moreover, cocoons with the same rigidity can have both high (47 conventional units) and low (29 conventional units) air permeability of the shells. The relationship between air permeability and raw silk yield was investigated. With an air permeability of 5.1 ml/(s‧cm2), the yield of raw silk was 43.2%, and with an air permeability of 6.3 ml/(s‧cm2), the yield of raw silk was 46.3%.
