Abstract

The global spread of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) presents a significant challenge to tuberculosis control efforts and jeopardizes the achievement of critical health targets set by the World Health Assembly and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This threat is particularly concerning due to the increasing number of cases with primary MDR-TB, highlighting the urgent need for effective strategies to combat this evolving form of the disease. This article underscores the critical need for a multifaceted approach to address MDR-TB. We emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, improved access to modern medical care, and the development of innovative treatment strategies, including surgical interventions. By enhancing our understanding of MDR-TB and implementing comprehensive control measures, we can mitigate the impact of this devastating disease and work towards a world free from tuberculosis.
