Abstract

URBANIZATION The growing role of cities in society; the location of the productive forces, changes in the social and demographic composition of the population, lifestyle and culture. U. is a multifaceted geographical, socio-economic, and demographic process that occurs as a result of the stages of society and territorial divisions of labor formed on the basis of historical development. U.'s narrower demographic concept implies an increase in the proportion of cities (especially large cities) and urban populations in the world, in individual regions and countries.
