Impedements in Monitoring Curriculum in Nigeria

Abstract

This paper examined challenges militating against effective monitoring of educational curriculum in Nigeria. Secondary and primary data were used in the paper. The paper identified inadequate funding of monitoring and evaluation programme, inadequate professional monitoring officers, poor capacity development of monitoring officers, corruptions, insecurity, inadequate monitoring tools, political instability and lack of political support as challenges militating against effective monitoring of educational curriculum in Nigeria. In order to solve these challenges identified, this paper recommends the following: the government should provide adequate funding for monitoring curriculum programme, employment of more professional curriculum monitors, constant capacity development programme for curriculum monitoring officers, fight all institution corruption in the school administration, provide security for monitoring officers, provide adequate monitoring tools, ensure political stability and the political officeholders should support the activities of monitoring in the country.
