Background: In 2018, cancer was the second leading cause of death worldwide, with colorectal cancer (CRC) being the third most common cancer in both sexes and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.
Aim of study: The current study aimed to comprehensively review the epidemiology, clinical characteristic, diagnostic approaches, treatment mmodalities and outcomes of colon cancer cases treated at Ad Dewania Teaching Hospital.
Methods: This retrospective chart review of patients diagnosed with histopathologically confirmed adenocarcinoma of the colon was conducted at Adyewania teaching hospital over a 2 year period from 2023 to 2025 The study design was approved by the Institutional Review Iraqi Board of General surgery
Results: there is significant association between recurrence and resection margin while there was no significant association between recurrence and age, sex, lymph vascular involvement, perineural involvement, tumor location and histological grade.
Conclusion: The study found a significant association between recurrence and various factors such as resection margin, CEA level, and number of lymph nodes, but no significant association was found with age, sex, lymph vascular involvement, perineural involvement, or tumor location.
