THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM AND ENT DISEASES

The immune system plays a crucial role in the onset, progression, and resolution of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) diseases. Understanding this relationship is essential for improving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This article explores the complex interactions between the immune system and ENT pathologies, highlighting key immunological mechanisms involved in infections, allergies, and autoimmune conditions affecting these organs. Despite advances in immunology and otolaryngology, knowledge gaps remain in identifying precise immune responses that differentiate acute from chronic ENT diseases. Furthermore, the role of immune dysregulation in conditions such as chronic rhinosinusitis and otitis media is not fully understood. This study employs a systematic review methodology, analyzing recent clinical and experimental studies on immune responses in ENT diseases. Findings indicate that both innate and adaptive immune responses contribute to disease progression, with cytokines, mucosal barriers, and microbial interactions playing pivotal roles. Additionally, immune modulation therapies have shown promise in managing chronic ENT disorders. The results suggest that targeted immunotherapies, including biologics and personalized medicine approaches, could enhance treatment efficacy for recurrent ENT conditions. Understanding immune system involvement in ENT diseases has significant implications for developing novel treatment strategies, improving patient outcomes, and reducing antibiotic resistance. Future research should focus on immune markers for early diagnosis and tailored immunotherapies. This study underscores the importance of integrating immunological insights into ENT disease management to advance precision medicine in otolaryngology.
