The incidence of diabetes mellitus tends to grow rapidly in all countries of the world. The combination of diabetes mellitus (DM) and pregnancy is one of the most difficult problems in obstetrics due to a large number of adverse consequences both for the health of a woman suffering from this disease and for her unborn child. Advances in modern obstetric diabetology have made it possible to reduce perinatal mortality in type 1 diabetes mellitus almost to the population level. However, pregnancy complications and neonatal morbidity in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remain high to date. The prevalence of GDM varies from 1 to 14% of the total number of pregnancies in different countries of the world and depends on the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a given population and the diagnostic criteria used.Downloads
