Abstract

The frequency of detection of LADA in different studies and populations depended on the definition of the disease that was used as its basis. Groop proposes to designate: diabetes mellitus that developed over the age of 35 years and when positive autoantibodies to GAD are detected as autoimmune latent diabetes in adults. In connection with the tactics of early prescription of insulin for type 2 diabetes, such a sign as the need for insulin in the first year of the disease cannot be a significant criterion. Determination of autoantibodies to GAD is recommended; a high rate (%) of relative units is considered positive.
