Abstract

Diabetes can also affect dental health. Affected areas in the mouth are the gums, the periodontium, also known as the supporting structure of the teeth, and the jawbone. People with diabetes have an increased risk of gum inflammation and periodontitis, which was previously incorrectly called "periodontal disease."
