Abstract

When filling carious cavities III, IV, V classes in temporary teeth, glass ionomer cement is
used. A filling material that has existed for several decades is glass ionomer cement (GIC). The uniqueness
of this material is its ability to exchange calcium and fluorine ions with the tissues of the tooth, which
provides a cariesstatic effect of the material. This property of the material is used in the so-called
Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (APT) technique, when cariously altered tooth tissues are removed with
hand instruments, and the prepared cavity is sealed with glass ionomer cement. On the one hand, the APT
technique is very welcomed by dentists and scientists, on the other hand, it is subject to certain criticism
