Abstract

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs play a crucial role in equipping individuals with the necessary skills to meet the demands of the modern workforce. With the advent of the new normal, characterized by rapid technological advancements and changing industry needs, the role of TVET trainers has become more critical than ever before. This research study investigated the impact of TVET trainers' professional development on skills development in the context of the new normal. TVET Trainers' personal information was analyzed using a five-point Likert scale, and their role in the pandemic was evaluated using a percentage and a five-point Likert scale for core competencies using qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative interviews explored TVET trainers' experiences, challenges, and strategies for adapting to the new normal, examining their professional development and practical skills delivery. The study examines trainers' technology adoption, curriculum design, learner-centered pedagogy utilization, and perception of competence and confidence in evolving educational landscape. Research highlights the importance of TVET trainers' professional development and its impact on skills development, contributing to the literature on training methodologies and curriculum design. The survey and focus group discussion showed that TVET trainer competence in Training Methodology I and multi-media platforms significantly impacts training delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Enhancing the training curriculum, particularly incorporating learning management systems (LMS), can strengthen the role of TVET trainers and make teaching more engaging and enjoyable. The results further informed policymakers, education administrators, and TVET institutions in developing strategies to strengthen the role of TVET trainers in the new normal, ensuring the provision of high-quality skills development programs that align with industry demands.
